Kings Island Closes Two Rides After A Fatal Roller Coaster Incident In Georgia

Posted

Two popular roller coasters at Kings Island are temporarily closed following a fatal incident at Six Flags Over Georgia earlier this week.

Six Flags confirmed that Orion and Diamondback at Kings Island are among nine roller coasters temporarily shut down across North America as a precaution after a man died while riding Goliath at the Georgia amusement park on Monday, October 12th.

According to the Cobb County Police Department, 42-year-old Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem died after being ejected from the ride. Several other people were injured in the incident, which remains under investigation.

The closures are connected to similarities between the affected roller coasters. Goliath, Orion, and Diamondback were all manufactured by Swiss company Bolliger & Mabillard. Six Flags temporarily closed similar attractions across its parks as a precaution while the Georgia incident is investigated. The company hasn’t announced a reopening timeline for the affected rides.

The closures extend beyond Ohio. Other affected attractions include Raging Bull at Six Flags Great America, Nitro at Six Flags Great Adventure, Leviathan and Behemoth at Canada’s Wonderland, Fury 325 and Thunder Striker at Carowinds, and Goliath at Six Flags Magic Mountain.

As of Wednesday, October 14th, Six Flags hadn’t provided a timeline for reopening Orion or Diamondback.

The company also hasn’t announced a reopening date for Goliath at Six Flags Over Georgia.

Kings Island is operating on its fall schedule. Visitors planning a trip should check the official Kings Island website for the latest operating information before heading to the park.

The closures are precautionary. There’s been no public indication that Orion or Diamondback experienced a similar incident of their own.
