The Moroccan restaurant Andalucia closed recently after nine months at 5327 Ballard Ave NW.
Owner Taufik Ridani opened Andalucia in November 2025 in the former Parish NW location.
“Closing Andalucia was not a decision I made lightly. The restaurant opened November 22, 2025, and by August 2026 the weight had become too much to carry alone,” Ridani told My Ballard.
“I built it from nothing plastered tadlakt walls, brass lights I fabricated with Moroccan hands, a menu that carried five centuries of Moroccan culinary history to a table in Seattle. I poured everything into it,” he wrote on Instagram.
Ridani pointed to several reasons for the closure.
“The rising cost of goods and ridiculous rent, a city that makes it harder every year for small businesses to survive, systems that feel built against the independent owner, and personal pain where months without seeing my children,” he said.
Ridani plans to write about his journey opening Andalucia through his Instagram page and soon-to-launch website, Rihlat Andalucia.
The word “rihlat” means “journey” in Arabic. Ridani says Rihlat Andalucia will be a memoir and digital series that will share the story behind the restaurant, the recipes, and the cultures that inspired it. He’s also planning to travel back to Morocco and Spain to document the origins of this recipes as part of the project.
“The full story is complex, and I intend to tell it honestly not all at once, but thread by thread, through Rihlat Andalucia,” Ridani said. “Some of it has already been covered publicly. The rest is mine to tell, on my own terms, in my own time.”
No news yet on what will open in the space, but we’ll keep you posted on what’s coming next.
