Four adults were arrested after authorities recovered approximately $7,000 worth of stolen watermelons during a multi-agency operation in South Texas, according to the Duval County Sheriff’s Office.
The operation took place during the early morning hours of Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026, in southern Duval County. Investigators targeted individuals suspected of stealing watermelons from local agricultural properties.

A thermal imaging drone played a key role in the operation, helping officers locate the individuals and take them into custody without injuries to the suspects or law enforcement personnel, according to the sheriff’s office.
The operation involved assistance from the Falfurrias Police Department, Brooks County Sheriff’s Office, Live Oak County Sheriff’s Office, San Diego Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol.
The Duval County Sheriff’s Office said agricultural theft is a serious issue that threatens the property and livelihoods of local farmers, ranchers and residents.
Authorities said they remain committed to protecting agricultural properties and holding those responsible for thefts accountable.
The sheriff’s office did not release the names of the four adults arrested or provide additional details about potential charges.
