Two loaded handguns, an explosive device and fireworks were recovered from a vehicle over the weekend after Buena Park police responded to reports of a crowd gathering around fireworks.
Officers were called to an area near Dolly Avenue and Desman Road at about 10:15 p.m. Saturday. There, they found a group of about 1,000 people who were causing traffic as they gathered for an unauthorized fireworks display, the Buena Park Police Department said.
At the scene, a sergeant stopped a car that was suspected to have taken part in the incident. Officials found two loaded handguns, fireworks and a container with a fireworks explosive device inside the vehicle.
Firefighters were called to help put out the remnants of the fireworks and clear the scene. A bomb squad was also called to collect the firing device and fireworks that did not explode.
Three people who were in the car that was stopped were arrested in connection with the case, though police did not specify what charges they may face.
